One month on...still can't believe it!

Some say it feels like alot longer, some say is that all...I feel like it has added 10 years to my very youthful life. Either way, it has been one month since the accident in Bali, and we marked this day with Hungry Jacks and alot of lollies.

The house feels just like that...a house. It is always so quiet. It is merely a drop off and pick up point for clothes, lunches and the odd sleep. It won't feel like a home again until Simon gets there. The oven and stove haven't been used for so long, I am hoping my culinary expertise don't dwindle away.

Off to school one morning and who do we see at the front door taking in the view of our lawns and gardens, Crossy from Mt Lawley Golf Course. He asked me what needed to be done and I didn't know what to say other than, 'Can you make my lawn green?'. Those who know Cottesloe Golf Course know that Simon takes the utmost pride in each blade of grass that sits on each hill on each tee, but when it comes to the lawn at home...lets just say it looks more like the new "BROWN" lawn you can get at any bad turf supplier. With that being said, another couple of car loads of the boys from Mt Lawley and the appropriate tools, and the work started. It looks magic lads, thank you.

The girls have gradually been given more time in Shenton Park to spend with Daddy and were quick this morning to rush in and give Daddy the updates on their lives. Georgia was all about toddler hip hop (Toddlerbop) and Alexandra completed 2 stages at school swimming. They even kicked Mummy out to have some alone time. Whilst my wifely duties are well under way, the girls are often being taken care of by both of our mums and the beautiful mums from school, Richelle, Trin, Ruth, Cath and loads of others helping out, thank you ladies.

The Docs mentioned that the Halo-Jacket contraption should come off in around 8 weeks, depending on the progress of the stabilisation. At least that gives him a timeline to work towards.

Simon is finding the smaller pleasures of day time television, watching The Morning Show, Ellen, Judge Judy, and even a little Question Time in parliament.

Today Simon asked me to bring him a coffee and the paper, and I was thinking that was a good sign, then noticed he has made use of the Laptop and his TAB card and wanted the form guide to help in his "rehabilitation". Thanks Garry from Dickies and Norro from Cott for the tips. Ended up $14.00 down.

Simon has made a friend in Joe the OT man, and was quick to ask him about his first release into the real world. Looking at arranging his first day out, night out, then weekend out. He might have to get the snoring under control before he is allowed to come home.

So another week of Physio and OT lies ahead and Simon will be taking it on with all he has. With that being said, he works so hard that by the time his girls get to see him at the end of the day, he is grumpy and just wants to rest. We are looking forward to Simon getting used to the chair and building up his strength to become more mobile.

Thank you for all the posts on this blog, Simon loves it!

  1. Hi Guys,
Pleased to hear that things are progressing and Simon is embracing his rehabilitation - it's a tough road ahead but anyone who knows the pair of you knows that you're two of the toughest little cookies going around and you'll both give it eveything you've got. Brad was happy to hear that, despite everything else that's going on in your busy lives, your TAB account has not been neglected and he thinks that this is the perfect opportunity for you to sharpen your poker player skills and get on the world tour... but I don't think he'd be thrilled with your choice in boxers though Simon (are they DOCKERS boxers you've been wearing??) hehe
Keep up the good work :)
    Love Holly & Brad xx

Keep up the positivity guys, it is inspiring, will let you know if we hear of any "sure bets" for that TAB account. James and Shell xx

  4. Dear Simon and Marina,

It's great to hear how everything is going and that your rehab is well underway with such determination.

Even though I hear how things are going, love reading the blog. Marina if you ever need a new vocation, a newspaper columnist may be it.

It has been an absolute pleasure helping out with the girls and well.... I definately can't assist with the tips.

Something different to ponder number 2; If all the oceans didn't have sponges how big would the ocean be!

Keep watching Ellen - love it!

  5. Hi Simon and Marina
We were both so shocked and worried when we heard about your accident. We may not have seen you guys for awhile but our thoughts have been with you every step of the way. I'm so glad you have this page so we can follow your recovery, and most importantly get it firsthand. So far I think it's been abit like chinese whispers, by the time we get the information it's been through 4 or 5 people and quite different to the real story. It's great to see a smile on your face Simon and to read about your positive attitude. I really believe that positive things come from positive thoughts. Your both an inspiration to anyone going through hard times. Keep it up. We look forward to following your amazing recovery.

  7. Personally I think the Cousins/Bourne kitchen combination was near on undefeatable in its day. As for the tips, number 5 always comes through and I though it might be too early to talk about the Dockers shorts but please. I'd rather see you stark bollock naked than see you in those. Thats a cruel joke someone played on you there.

  8. Dear Simon and Marina

We think of you guys everyday and wonder whats going on and how you are feeling. It must be great to be in Shenton Park and have a plan to follow. Simon, i am sure everyday day is grueling, tiring and frustrating, but i hope that each day also brings achievement, satisfaction and laughter, however small the doses are.

Marina, remember the dramas we had with the house over the weeks after we moved in, well the saga continues. we have had a pool put in and we hot limestone and we ha a retic leak where water got under the pool and sank the deep end of the fibreglass pool, luckily not bad enough that the pool had to be dug up and started again, but our pool is now not level!

And then last night, the light fitting in our room fell out of the ceiling and it now hanging from eth rook but only a live wire.

Can you believe it! We just keep laughing so that we don't cry. I hope this had made you laugh......

    Take care

  11. Hi guys.

We've only just been told of what's going on with you guys, but Bondy sent me through the blog (he's out at work til next week)... then send I have to message him an update of everything so far. Holy crap is all I can really say.

I know we're at the other end of the country, but if there is ANYTHING we can do from here, please don't hesitate to let us know!

We'll keep checking on here, and I'm sure Bondy will be in touch again when he gets home.

Marina, you are an amazingly strong woman to be doing the hospital and home front stuff - my hat goes off to you. Bourney - keep being as strong as you have been (nice to hear you still have your sense of humour!)... I'm sure it seems like a slow process, but hopefully you're seeing the signs of progress.

    Take care guys

  12. Hi Marina, I have a couple of friends who are friends with you, they have told me about your husband. It just goes to show you that you never know what life is going to throw at you. It sounds like you guys are pretty tough cookies. Your blog is inspirational, I am in the same business as you and have a 2 and a half year old so I know the outside pressures that you are under. Thank you for sharing your experiences. My thoughts are with you and your family. Stay positive, its amazing what a positive mind can do. I wish I could offer you some more reassuring words. You will get through this! Wishing you all the best - Phillipa - Innercity Settlements xx

  13. Hi Simon and Marina

I am really enjoying reading your blog and staying up to date with your lives. Its good to hear that all is progressing pretty well.
Just wanted to tell you that the AWSC was a huge success last week, with lots of compliments on our fantastic course. I think its looking better ( and greener) than it ever has before. So thankyou Simon as you are largely responsible for that! You may have read that the event was won by a 15yo from NZ, Cecilia Cho, who finished 1 under for the 72 holes. There was a lot of great golf played, including a course record of 67 shot by Justine Lee from NSW. All the best.

It's my weekly checking in from the north. Glad to see that you're settling in good. You must tell mamina that she has to start putting the measurement of your "guns" on your weekly blog so that we that we have proof that you're doing your exercises. Don't know when my next trip down is but you will definitely be my first stop. Hugs and kisses to you, mamina & girls.

Glad to hear you are attacking the rehab well. If your mental strength is reflected in your weights programme, the guns will be huge!
